Introducing "The Whalettes"

Round 1 of the Sizzling 7s - Cliff Oval, Wahroonga

Game 1 - The Mosman Whalettes lead by Andie Kearns faced Gordon in our very first game. With excitement (and some nerves) the girls took to the field and did themselves and their supporters proud with a gutsy performance against strong opposition. The girls enjoyed their first game and learnt a lot about 7’s rugby in a short space of time. The standout performers were Gabi Brown, Andie Kearns and Phoebe Kerr.

Game 2 – Fresh from their first game and with a much better understanding of the rules and the pace of the game the Whalettes faced Forest in Game 2. The Whalettes were awesome. Only their 2nd game and they started to resemble a 7’s rugby team. Good work at the breakdown, strong defence, good passing and running saw the Whalettes put a lot of pressure on the Forest girls in both halves. Whilst we scored a few excellent tries and pushed Forest all the way they were a little too good for us in the end. A strong performance by the whole team.

Round 2 of the Sizzling 7s - Boronia Park, Hunters Hill

Game 1 - The Mosman Whalettes were strengthened by the inclusion of Mika Fowler, Alice Lovett and Lucy Collard. After a very good warm up we took to the field and faced a very well drilled and experienced team from Collaroy. The girls had learnt a lot from the previous week and they played with passion and grit but were outgunned by their experienced opponents. We also played on a full sized field for the very first time which was quite daunting.

Game 2 – The Whalettes were keen to improve on their earlier performance and took to the field against Eastwood looking for their first win. The girls certainly lifted in this game and they played some great running rugby. The Whalettes enjoyed the majority of possession and field position, scoring 6 tries to nil and achieving our first win of the season.

  • Andie Kearns
